County Collector - Treasurer

My name Colleen Kidd, and I was elected as the Grundy County Treasurer & Ex-Officio Collector. This is a County-wide elected office with a four-year term. On March 1, 2007, my title changed to Collector-Treasurer. At that time, our county no longer uses Township Collectors to collect "Current" taxes during the months of November, December, January, and February of each tax year. Tax Collection is "Centralized." All "Current" and "Delinquent Taxes" are collected in my office in the Grundy County Courthouse.

I started to work as Deputy in October 1996. Then August 28, 2000 I was appointed by the late Mel Carahan to be the Grundy County County Treasurer & Ex-officio Collector. Then November 2000 I won the election. I started my term April 1, 2001. I enjoy serveing the residents of Grundy County.

As Collector-Treasurer, I collect and disburse all Real Estate and Personal Property taxes, Surtax, Railroad and Utilities taxes, Payment in lieu of tax and the Private Car Tax. Monies are disbursed to the taxing entities such as the Schools, Road & Bridge, Townships, Health Center, Library, Nursing Home, Developmentally Disabled, Fire Districts,Senior Center. The Collector-Treasuer also issues the County Merchant License. My office assists taxpayers with questions regarding paid and unpaid taxes andy by law must use any legal means to collect all taxes. Primary tax records are held for public use within the Collectors office.

The Collector-Treasurer's office is also responsible for the receipting of monies received by Grundy County and the elected officials. Daily deposits and monthly, semi-annual and annual bookkeeping and financial reports are maintained and generated.
